Submission FAQ

Hopefully this Frequently Asked Questions section will answer all your questions about what format and how to submit your memories. Click on the links below to go to the appropriate FAQ. What to submit

Please, do not feel that you must submit each of every type of memory; however, please do submit more than one memory. There will be several sections in the book, and I'd like to see you and your loved ones throughout the book. Please keep the language clean. I have sensitive eyes.

The following are just the basics. More ideas and info will be added to the blog postings as time goes by.

  • Other People - Especially those who have passed on, but who are not forgotten
  • One liners, such as "My mom had chickens when she was a little girl in Greece" or "My granddaughter, Miss Emily, never called me 'Grandma' - she always called me 'Grandma-Grandma' in rapid fire sequence."
  • Short stories, up to about 500 words each (if you want to go more than that for each memory that you submit, maybe you should write your autobiography?)
  • Photos (make sure you include a description of the photo as you would like it to appear)
    • your family
    • your home or somewhere you lived
    • something you or a family member created (drawings, car ports, gardens)
    • vacation pictures
    • part of a collection
    • hand-write a short memory and photograph it
  • family treeNot The Full Tree, but maybe a few generations of your immediate family
  • RecipesYes, I know I don't cook, but many of you do. More than one recipe would be terrific. And who knows - maybe I will learn to cook some day. Stranger things have happened.
  • Military service - branch, which war, what you did

How to submit

Email is my favorite communication choice. Please follow the email guidelines below, as I am hoping to have hundreds of emails to sort through. I'll email you if I have any other questions about your submission.

  • One memory per email - if you submit more than one (please do), please send each one in its own email
  • Email Subject Line: Memory Book. If you don't use that as the subject line, my email auto organizer will not file the email in the correct folder, and your submission might not make it into the book.
  • Include the following
    1. Your name
    2. Your name as you would like it to appear in the book (First name, last initial; Full name;nickname; other)
    3. Optional: The city/state/country your are living in
    4. Optional: The city/state/country that the memory took place in
    5. If you would like your email published in the directory at the back of the book
    6. For non-story items, such as photos or recipes, please include a description - for example, with a recipe, include something about how you obtained the recipe and why it is important to you. For a drawing your child made, include who drew it
  • Snail Mail - If you are trying to get a non-tech family member to write/type something, I will take snail mail submissions via US Postal Service after I settle, probably around mid-September 2012

    • JPG format is the easiest for me; however, I can convert PNG and BMP
    • Please use only photos that belong to you or for which you have permission to use
    • I may or may not add "frames" around photos, depending on if I have time or not
